 Meditation Installation approx. 6 feet wide and tall Oswego Lake Gallery This installation was inspired by my daily meditation practice. Paradoxically, the goal is to cultivate a state of alert awareness simultaneously with an inner stillness. The central illuminated figure, with eyes open, represents the alert awareness. The many smaller faces, with peaceful expressions and eyes closed, represent the many voices that merrilly chatter away in my mind during a typical day, but here are cooperating in silence for the greater good during meditation. After finishing the installation and sitting on the floor gazing upward right into the central figure's eyes, I found the overall effect to be quite powerful and moving. I will continue to use the burned in mental image of the installation as a meditation object. |
