ARTIST'S STATEMENT FOR
CHAMBERS

Each element of these Chambers has significance. I work with symbols to create a thought or sometimes a story. In the case of this series I’m working with the concept of protecting the unknown fragile parts of ourselves that we conceal. We are not always able to be strong in the support of our own ideas and in the constant struggle to be who we truly are. The eggs in this series are symbolic of our much cherished dreams, desires or our perfect self. Various aspects of the egg are used as symbols in my work. The shell is opaque and doesn’t allow us to see the dream realized until it is ready to give birth. The contents of the egg equates to the life force or energy that is needed to bring the dream to life. Brightly colored shells promise exciting, dramatic insides.

The gothic structures represent protection for the fragile eggs, keeping them safe from harm just as we protect our dreams and desires. Often I place faces or creatures on the Chambers to keep watch over the valued egg cargo. These protectors refuse to let the treasured dream die.
